Dick and carey model
Dick and carey model of instructional
design
The dick and carey model of instructional design
provides a systematic approach of designing the effective instructional
material. It includes all five stages of ADDIE model and adds further structure
. It has more focus on design and less focus on implementation than the ADDIE
model. This model consists of nine steps which are as follows:
1.Identify instructional goals :
In this step , the designer identifies the
instructional goals and objectives. The goals should be SMART(specific,
measurable, achievable ,relevant and time bound).
2. Conduct instructional analysis:
The designer analyses the instructional material and
determines the necessary content, skills and knowledge that the learners need
to achieve.
3. Analyze learners and contexts:
The designer analyses the learners and the context in
which the instruction will take place. This includes the learners
characteristics ,prior knowledge and learning styles.
4.Performance objectives:
Based on the instructional goals and analysis ,the
designer writes clear and specific performance objectives for the learners.
5.Develop assessment instruments:
The designer develops the assessment instruments that
will be used to measures the learning outcomes of the content and skills.
6.Develop instructional strategy:
The designer
develops the instructional strategy that includes selecting the appropriate
instructional method ,media and materials.
7.Develop and select instructional materials:
The designer develops or selects the instructional
materials that includes textbooks , videos and online resources.
8.Design and conduct formative evaluation:
The designer conduct formative evaluation to test the
effectiveness of instruction and make necessary revisions on it.
9. Design and conduct summative evaluation:
The designer conducts summative evaluation to
determine the overall effectiveness of the instruction to meet the goals and
objectives.
